Why you don’t want to ‘lose weight’
Maybe your clothes are feeling a bit tight. Maybe you have a special event coming up and want to look, Schmick. Maybe the scales are going up and up. Here are reason’s why you don’t want to ‘lose weight’
About those scales… throw them out!
Your total body mass is reflected on those scales. Bones, fluid, fat, muscle, skin hair, toenails! The scales are not an accurate reflection of your strength or fitness.
In fact, neither is the Body Mass Index (BMI). The BMI rating system can be useful as a benchmark when people are starting out on their fitness journey. However, if an athlete, body builder, or anyone with a decent muscle load uses the Index, they are likely to fall into the obese category based solely on their overall weight.
When someone wants to ‘lose weight’, what they are really referring to is losing body fat and creating lean muscle. This is called body recomposition. The idea is if you build muscle, your body will burn fat. Your body will change shape and your muscles will be more defined.
So next time you start to say you want to ‘lose weight’ stop yourself. Focus on working smart. Good whole foods to fuel your body, regular exercise focussing on strength, drink lots of water, and adequate sleep.
Recomp your body the right way.
