When to replace your training shoes
When to replace your training shoes?
Running shoes, tennis shoes, sand shoes; high arch, low arch, cushioning support, minimalist, extra cushioning; no matter what type of shoe you prefer, they are almost definitely expensive!
Once you have found your perfect pair of training shoes and invested with big bucks, itโs hard to let go. Unfortunately, if you very active, you may need to consider replacing your favourite shoes every 6 months. The tread on shoes wears down just like the tread on your tyres.
Over time or by repeated impact (e.g. running), the support in a shoe compresses, and the base of a shoe wears away. This can result in your shoes changing the way your foot moves, or even causing pronation (rolling in) of the ankles, hip pain, and back pain.
If you naturally roll your foot our or in as you move, or run on your toes, you may wear your shoe out even faster. In the same way that you check your tyres for bald spots, have a look at the base of your shoes and see if there are any smooth patches. If so, it can mean you are in need of a new pair of kicks, and it may pay to have your foot fitted to the right pair to reduce the possibility of strain from uneven biomechanics as you move through your day.
If you have private health insurance, make use of your membership and book in for a free consultation at an approved podiatrist. If you donโt have private health insurance, head out to one of the shoe stores that offers the movement scans. If you simply havenโt upgraded your shoes since you were in high school, it might be time to go shopping.
Our feet get us from place to place and we take them for granted.
Show them a little love for their dedication by making sure they are adequately protected and supported.
