Meditation
Can meditation be the key element for fat loss?
Studies have shown how beneficial meditating can be for the body but, studies are now showing how it can help you lose weight as well! How is this possible you might ask?
First of all, meditation is the practice of focusing your attention in order to find calm and clarity. It helps manage stress which is the most reason why people eat. Clinical studies have shown that certain meditation techniques have a profound effect on reducing belly fat. Its very simple math. When a person is under stress, understandably the body secretes stress hormones that ultimately cause weight gain. The body is anticipating possible starvation in the setting of a stressful event. Meditation reduces the bodyโs response to stress and therefore reduces the stress hormones that promote weight gain. It also increases serotonin, which makes you feel more satiated and amazingly reduces the temptation to eat junk food.
To continue, the next question that might pop up is how do I get started?
Anyone can practice meditation and it can be done anywhere! There is absolutely no need for special equipment or expensive classes. Slowly, ease in as little as 3 minutes a day! Everyone has 3 minutes of their time to spare.
To start, find a quiet place or the quietest place accessible to you. Once youโre in a quiet place, make yourself comfortable. You can sit or lie down in any position that feels easy.
Firstly, start by focusing on your breath, watching your chest or stomach as it rises and falls. Feel the air as it moves in and out of your mouth or nose. Listen to the sounds the air makes. Do this for a minute or two, until you start to feel more relaxed. Observe the breath as it enters your nostrils. Continue focusing on the breath for 2-3 minutes or however much time you have.
If you find your mind wandering, donโt fret, this is normal just acknowledge it and return your attention to your breath.
As you start finishing, reflect on how easily your mind wandered. Notice how easy it was to bring your attention back to your breath. Remembering always that with regular practice, it will get easier and easier. Better yet It begins to feel more natural and you will crave it!
Furthermore, to incorporate this practice into your daily life, remember that this wonโt be a replacement for diet at all. It can support those positive health changes. Good luck!
