You might have heard the statement S.M.A.R.T. goal thrown around inside the gym, work, and in everyday life or maybe you haven’t. These goals are a part of every aspect of our businesses and life. What exactly are they, and how are they related to fitness?
These goals provide motivation, a sense of direction, and a clear focus for people, especially in fitness. It plays a crucial role in success. It is used to provide a guide for goal setting inside the gym whether it is to lose weight, gain muscle or just obtain overall fitness. How nice is it if you knew exactly how to achieve your fitness goals successfully? SMART goals map out exactly what you need to do.
Each letter stands for a different goal.
The SMART acronym stands for Specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, time-bound.
Your goals should be precise and stated in performance terms for example: If you would like to finish your 5k faster, or if you want to lose 4kg of fat in the next 10 weeks. Be specific!
Please avoid setting goals that are way too broad. Refine the goal into a specific accomplishment that you would like to reach.
The goal you set needs to be measurable. You have t define how you will measure your success as you move through your fitness journey. A few great examples would be to monitor their BMI, use the scale or a dress size they would like to fit in,
Make your goal attainable. All goals should be challenging of course but it should not be difficult that they overwhelm you. Adjust your goal so that it is reasonable with your body and lifestyle. These means do not strive to lose 5kg in one week!
Your goal needs to matter. This helps you stay motivated and on track. Define how this one goal is relevant in your life and constantly remind yourself when you are feeling down and want to give in.
Each goal should have a time limit. This gives you the motivation to stay on track if you have a deadline.
