The Exercise Plateau
The Exercise Plateau
If you are a seasoned gym goer you may have experienced the feeling of going nowhere in your workout regime from time to time. That is why is important to change things up, or try something new. This is definitely true if you feel bored or uninspired to your normal routine. When it comes to the types of exercises, professionals base their thinking on variations of the same movements or even adding several movements together.
To further increase the difficulty of the exercise; time under tension is manipulated, force or weight increased, stability can altered. For example the simple Push Up can turn into something intense by changing the tempo of the movement, increase the speed in which you do push ups or slowing down the movement to increase the time under tension.
Try this: When lowering your body towards the ground, do it slowly for 10 Seconds. When you make you way up towards the sky, do it for the same pace, you won’t be able to get as much reps in because you’re recruiting more muscle fibres to stabilise and keep your positioning.
By manipulating the exercise you increase the broadness of adaptation your body needs to increase strength and strength endurance. This has a multifaceted benefit to not only your physical appearance over time but also the tendons, ligaments and bones when placed under its thresholds. Your body is an amazing specimen, it can adapt to things quickly that is why it needs different stimulus all the time.
Remember this, Adaptation occurs when change is exposedย. That is when your body experiences situations under stress, but please be wary! Too much stress and your body will suffer. If a stress cannot be tolerated that is when injuries occur, which is why people generally seek professional advice of coaches and physicians. A good coach understands your limitations and helps you adapt to exercise progressively, they think ahead so you don’t have to.
Always seek the advice of your physician or other qualified health provider before starting an exercise regime.
