If you don’t have anything nice to say, you should just say nothing at all.

How many times do we hear this?
I remember as a child this was always said by adults I looked up to – parents, teachers, anyone in authority.
I always figured it was about other people, you know the saying, if you don’t have anything nice to say about Sally don’t say it all. I believe this still stands although we often forget to be nice to the most important person in our lives. Ourselves.

The next time you see your reflection instead of looking at it and telling yourself you don’t like this or that about yourself, how about you comment on how awesome you are. Yes that is right, say it out loud – it might not seem like you really mean it at first but the more you tell yourself something, the more you believe in it. If you can’t bring yourself to tell you how awesome you are then don’t say anything at all and shut right up.

You may not always feel awesome and it is likely you will experience failure but instead of internalizing and telling yourself you are failure how about you acknowledge the attempt and move on. To put it simply, you WILL NOT have any sense of achievement in life if you are constantly hating on yourself and focusing on the problems. Self-pity and self-loathing can be our worst enemy if we allow it to be and if we constantly feed into it we will never achieve anything in this life.

So next time you catch yourself telling you how crap you are as a person, give yourself a good hard look in the mirror and tell yourself to shut the hell up. Go on give it a go…
